Hey Folks!
First of all, I am so sorry for not posting anything for so long. It’s been a whirlwind couple of months in my life and a stressful one at that.
Next, thank you for all the encouraging messages that I have been getting meanwhile. I also did receive the questions that many of you sent. I am sorry for not getting back; I was occupied with those whirlwind changes. But, I promise to keep posting regularly now and also address those queries in future posts. I have a feeling 2018 is going to be great for this blog 🙂
End of year – Review
Here, I just wanted to update you all on where I stand with respect to my financial independence goals. When I mean “stand”, I mean quite literally.
See the following figure.

At the end of 2017, it looks like I have already crossed 1/5th of my road to financial independence (FI). This was not exactly what I had in my mind at the start of 2017. I was hoping to cover more ground. Nevertheless, considering the BIG changes that have happened, I am quite satisfied with the end results so far. Only 7.5 more years to go. Let us March ON!
What is the big whirlwind change?
Well, the short answer is: I am moving to a new country. Yes, I am leaving my beloved Munich 😥 !
At the beginning of the next year, I will be moving to the South of Austria (Can anyone guess the place from the below picture?).

Being a non-European, permanently moving to a new country is not an easy thing to do. Believe me, so much bureaucracy and so much work.
Why am I moving? I am changing companies and joining a new job.
Why am I switching jobs? Well, after some soul searching, I realized that I had been so hell-bent on reaching the destination (financial independence) that I failed to enjoy the journey itself. I would like to savor the journey. “I want my journey to be my destination!”.
I also had this feeling of being stuck in an endless rut. I knew I did not want to relive yesterday. But nevertheless, I would get up and let the loop continue. It was like watching the same boring movie again and again. So I decided to break the loop!
I decided to realign my journey.

I am making a detour. I would like to make value/purpose as my primary goal and FI as my secondary goal.
Yes, it is possible that these roads have strong divergence and this could slow me down reaching FI. But as I said, I want to enjoy the journey. JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION!
That said, personally I think this detour is a win-win situation in the long term. I have a feeling that if I enjoy what I am doing, it would very significantly accelerate my journey in reaching FI.
Frohes Neues Jahr to you all
I know this post was more personal rambling rather than being an informational one. But as I said, awesome informational posts are coming very soon. Stay tuned!
